Glossy Paper
Paper with a smooth, highly reflective surface that maximises apparent contrast and colour saturation.
In depth
A glossy surface reflects light specularly, so less is scattered back from the paper base and the blacks read deeper — typically a maximum density of 2.3 or more against 1.6 for matte. The cost is reflections, which make a glossy print difficult to view under any light source that is not carefully placed.
Examples in practice
A glossy print shows visibly richer blacks than the same file on matte, but reflects every lamp in the room.
