Ink Set

The complete group of ink colours a printer uses, including additional greys and extended-gamut colours beyond basic CMYK.

Measured in count

In depth

Photographic printers add light cyan and light magenta to smooth highlight transitions, and two or three greys to make monochrome printing neutral and free of colour crossover. Some sets add orange, green or violet to extend the gamut into colours the four-ink model cannot reach.

Examples in practice

A ten-ink set with three greys prints a neutral monochrome image without relying on coloured inks to build grey.
