A group of German photographers taught by Bernd and Hilla Becher, known for large-format, systematic and often very large-scale work.
In depth
The Bechers' own typologies of industrial structures — shot frontally in flat light and arranged in grids — established a method their students extended to vastly larger prints and broader subjects. The school is largely responsible for the wall-sized photographic tableau becoming a standard form in contemporary art.
