Aerial Photography
Photography made from an elevated platform — aircraft, helicopter, drone or kite — looking down on the subject.
Measured in
m (altitude)
In depth
Height reveals pattern and structure invisible from the ground, and a straight-down view removes the horizon and turns a scene into graphic design. Drones democratised the genre and brought regulation with it: licensing, altitude limits, restricted airspace and privacy law all apply and vary considerably by country.
Examples in practice
A drone at 80 m turns a harbour's moored boats into an abstract arrangement of shapes on dark water.
