A wheeled platform carrying a camera and operator, moved along the ground or on track for extended travelling shots.

A dolly move changes the camera's position and therefore the perspective, which is what distinguishes it fundamentally from a zoom: objects shift relative to one another as the camera advances. Track is laid and levelled for smoothness, and the classic dolly-zoom effect combines the two in opposite directions.

Pushing in on a subject while zooming out keeps them the same size while the background appears to expand.
