Content-aware Fill
A tool that removes a selected area and synthesises a replacement from surrounding image content.
In depth
The algorithm searches the rest of the image for patches that fit the hole's boundaries and stitches them together, extending patterns and gradients plausibly. It excels on irregular textures such as grass, water and foliage, and it fails on structured content — architecture, faces, text — where the invention becomes obvious.
Examples in practice
Removing a walker from a beach scene fills the gap with convincing sand and surf in one operation.
