Film Simulation

A colour and tone rendering designed to imitate the response of a specific photographic film.

In depth

A convincing simulation reproduces more than a colour cast: it models the film's tone curve with its shoulder and toe, its channel crosstalk and its grain structure. Some cameras apply these in-body to JPEGs, which lets a photographer work to a finished look straight from capture rather than in processing.

Examples in practice

A simulation of a classic slide film delivers deep blues and abruptly clipped highlights straight out of camera.
