Clarity works over a large radius, so it enhances broad structures rather than fine detail — the difference between it and sharpening. Positive values suit landscape, architecture and texture; negative values soften skin attractively, which makes it a legitimate portrait tool when used gently and locally.
Examples in practice
Clarity at +25 on a weathered barn brings out the plank structure; at −20 on skin it smooths without blurring the eyes.
