In depth
Products appear to the right of the arrow and generally have lower total energy than the reactants when the reaction is exothermic. Their appearance is often the visible evidence that a reaction has occurred, through a precipitate, a gas, a colour change or a flame.
Examples in the real world
Carbon dioxide and water are the products of complete hydrocarbon combustion; hydrogen gas from zinc and acid.
