A technique using very dilute developer and almost no agitation over a long period, typically an hour.

With minimal agitation the developer exhausts locally in dense highlight areas while continuing to work in the shadows, which compresses the tonal range and can hold detail in extremely contrasty scenes. It also produces pronounced edge effects that increase apparent sharpness. Its risks are uneven development and bromide drag streaking.
Examples in practice
A single negative containing both a sunlit exterior and a dark interior prints on one paper grade after stand development.
