The plastic layers mean processing, washing and drying take a fraction of the time fibre paper needs, and the print dries flat. This makes it ideal for proofing, teaching and work prints. Its archival life is shorter, and the sealed surface gives a slightly harder, more mechanical look that many printers find less attractive.
Examples in practice
A resin-coated work print washes in four minutes and is dry and flat within twenty, against hours for fibre.
