Foliage reflects infrared strongly and renders brilliant white, while blue sky reflects almost none and goes black, producing the surreal look known as the Wood effect. An unmodified camera needs exposures of many seconds behind a filter; converting a body by removing its infrared cut filter allows handheld shooting.
