Camera Slider

A short track on which a camera moves smoothly in a straight line.

Measured in cm

In depth

A slider adds parallax, which is what makes a shot read as three-dimensional: near objects move across the frame faster than distant ones. Even fifty centimetres of travel transforms a static interview or a time-lapse, and motorised versions allow the slow, precise movement that a hand cannot sustain.

Examples in practice

A 60 cm slide across a foreground branch gives a landscape time-lapse a genuine sense of depth.
