Where a standard display peaks near 100 to 300 cd/m², an HDR screen may reach 1,000 or more in small highlights while holding deep blacks. Editing for HDR requires different practice, since the extra range is easily overused, and any HDR image must still have a graceful fallback for standard screens.

A sunset edited for HDR shows specular highlights that genuinely glow, while its standard version tone-maps them down.
