Display P3

A wide colour space now standard on modern phones, tablets and laptops, combining the DCI-P3 primaries with sRGB's white point and transfer curve.

In depth

P3 covers about 25 per cent more colour than sRGB, mainly in reds and greens, and it has become the practical wide-gamut target for screen delivery because so many devices now support it. Files must be tagged, since a P3 image interpreted as sRGB appears oversaturated.

Examples in practice

A tagged P3 export of a red sports car shows visibly deeper red on a modern phone than the sRGB version.
