The white balance axis running from green to magenta, correcting casts that colour temperature alone cannot address.

Colour temperature handles the blue-orange axis, but many artificial sources — particularly fluorescent tubes and cheap LEDs — are displaced perpendicular to it, into green or magenta. Without a tint control these cannot be neutralised at any Kelvin value. It is also the finer of the two adjustments for skin, where a few points of magenta often reads better than a temperature change.

Office strip lighting needs about +20 magenta on the tint slider before skin stops looking sickly.
