Volumetric Analysis

Quantitative analysis based on measuring the volume of a standard solution needed to react with the analyte.

Formula / equation n = M × V
Unit mL

In depth

Also called titrimetry, the method requires a reaction that is fast, complete, of known stoichiometry, and equipped with a means of detecting the end point. It is far quicker than gravimetry and, with good technique, achieves comparable accuracy.

Examples in the real world

Determining the concentration of hydrochloric acid by titration against standardised sodium hydroxide.
