The equivalence point is a theoretical position defined by stoichiometry, marked on a titration curve by the steepest part of the pH rise. Its pH depends on the salt formed and can be located precisely with a pH meter and the derivative of the curve.
Examples in the real world
Titrating ethanoic acid with NaOH gives an equivalence point near pH 8.7 because acetate hydrolyses.
