Pick Flag

A binary marker used during a first culling pass to separate keepers from rejects.

In depth

A flag is faster than a rating because it is a single yes-or-no decision, which suits the first pass where the question is only whether a frame is technically usable. Flags are usually stored in the catalogue rather than in standard metadata, so they do not always survive moving between applications.

Examples in practice

A first pass flags 700 of 2,000 frames as picks in twenty minutes, before any star rating is considered.
