Intra-frame Compression
Compression in which each frame is encoded independently, without reference to those around it.

Mbps
In depth
Because every frame is complete in itself, intra-frame footage scrubs and cuts smoothly and survives grading well. Long-GOP compression instead stores occasional full frames with the differences between them, which is far more efficient but requires the editing system to reconstruct any given frame from its neighbours.
Examples in practice
An intra-frame file scrubs instantly on the timeline where a long-GOP file of half the size stutters.
