Each sheet carries its own negative, positive and reagent pod; rollers burst the pod as the print ejects, spreading developer between the layers. The result is a unique physical object with no negative, which gives instant photography a documentary weight that digital files lack. Exposure latitude is narrow, so instant film rewards even, generous light.
