A removable sensor unit that attaches to a medium- or large-format camera body in place of a film magazine.
In depth
Digital backs let studios keep their existing medium-format bodies and lenses when moving from film, and they still serve technical cameras where movements matter. Because the sensor is fixed and the body supplies the shutter, backs are usually paired with leaf-shutter lenses for high flash sync speeds.
