Photographic paper whose emulsion is coated directly onto a paper base with no plastic layer.

Because chemistry penetrates the paper fibres, fibre-based prints need long washing — an hour or more — and they dry with a characteristic curl that requires flattening. In exchange they offer a depth of black, a surface quality and an archival life that resin-coated paper does not match, which is why every exhibition print is made on it.
Examples in practice
A selenium-toned fibre print shows deeper blacks and a subtler surface than the same image on resin-coated stock.
