APS-H was Canon's compromise for professional sports bodies, offering faster readout and higher frame rates than full frame while keeping more angle of view than APS-C. It was discontinued once full-frame readout speeds caught up, and it survives mainly as a crop mode on some cameras and in a few large-sensor cine formats.
Examples in practice
A 1D-series sports body used APS-H to reach ten frames a second when full-frame readout could not keep pace.
