Colours that sit adjacent to one another on the colour wheel, producing a harmonious and unified effect.

Analogous schemes lack the tension of complementary pairs and so read as calm and cohesive, which is why they suit landscape, still life and quiet portraiture. They occur naturally in autumn foliage, sunsets and forests, and a grade can be used to pull a slightly discordant frame into an analogous range.
