Intensive Property

A property whose value is independent of the amount of substance present.

Unit Various

In depth

Because intensive properties do not scale with sample size, they can identify a substance regardless of how much is available. Many are formed as the ratio of two extensive properties — density is mass over volume, and molar heat capacity is heat capacity over amount.

Examples in the real world

Temperature, density, boiling point, refractive index, concentration and pressure.
