An equilibrium in which all the reacting species are present in the same phase.

Every species appears in the equilibrium expression because all their concentrations can vary. Homogeneous equilibria are the simplest case to analyse and are typical of gas-phase reactions and of reactions entirely in solution.

N₂O₄(g) ⇌ 2NO₂(g); the esterification of ethanoic acid with ethanol in a single liquid phase.
