Cathode
The electrode at which reduction occurs.
Unit
Dimensionless
In depth
The cathode is positive in a galvanic cell, attracting electrons from the external circuit, and negative in an electrolytic cell. Cations always move towards the cathode, so metal deposition and hydrogen evolution occur there in every electrolysis.
Examples in the real world
The copper electrode of a Daniell cell; the object being coated during electroplating.
