Aqueous Solution
A solution in which water is the solvent, denoted by the state symbol (aq).
Unit
mol/L
In depth
Water's polarity, hydrogen bonding and high dielectric constant make it able to dissolve a huge range of ionic and polar substances, separating and stabilising ions that would otherwise recombine. Almost all biological and analytical chemistry takes place in aqueous solution.
Examples in the real world
Hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution, blood plasma, and seawater.
