Stacked Sensor
A design in which the sensor is bonded directly to a separate processing and memory layer beneath it.

Stacking allows the whole array to be read out in a fraction of the usual time, because data moves vertically into fast circuitry rather than out through the chip's edge. The practical results are near-elimination of rolling shutter, very high burst rates, blackout-free viewfinders and high-frame-rate video from the full sensor width.
Examples in practice
A stacked sensor reads a full frame in about 1/250 s, making its electronic shutter usable for sport and flash.
