Paper Profile

An ICC profile describing how a specific combination of printer, ink and paper reproduces colour.

In depth

Because the profile encodes the behaviour of all three together, using the wrong one produces predictable errors — usually a colour cast and blocked shadows. Manufacturers supply generic profiles for their own media, and a custom profile made on the individual machine will always be more accurate.

Examples in practice

Printing a rag paper with a glossy paper's profile produces a green cast and crushed shadow detail.
