Large Format

Sheet-film photography at 4×5 inches and above, using individually loaded sheets and a camera with full movements.

Measured in inches

In depth

At 4×5 the negative is roughly thirteen times the area of a 35 mm frame, so contact prints and modest enlargements carry extraordinary detail and tonality. Each sheet is exposed, loaded and processed individually, which enforces a slow, considered way of working — and allows development to be tailored frame by frame in the Zone System sense.

Examples in practice

An 8×10 contact print made from a single sheet shows detail no enlargement of a smaller negative can equal.
