360-degree Photography

Capturing a complete spherical view around a point, viewed interactively or in a headset.

Measured in degrees

In depth

A dedicated camera with opposed fisheye lenses stitches a sphere automatically, while a conventional camera requires a panoramic head and careful rotation about the entrance pupil. The photographer's own position is the central problem, since there is nowhere out of shot to stand — the usual answers are a monopod removed in post, or hiding behind the camera's nadir.

Examples in practice

A property listing lets a viewer look around an entire room from a single spherical capture.
