Oxidising Agent
A species that accepts electrons from another substance and is itself reduced in the process.
Unit

In depth
Strong oxidising agents have very positive standard reduction potentials and typically contain an element in a high oxidation state or a highly electronegative element. Their strength depends on conditions: permanganate is a much stronger oxidant in acid than in neutral solution.
Examples in the real world
Fluorine, ozone, potassium permanganate, potassium dichromate and hydrogen peroxide.
