In depth
A spinning top records a session that travelled a long way in both directions and settled near where it started, which practitioners describe as balanced or indecisive. It is a looser version of a doji: the doji requires the body to be near zero, while a spinning top merely requires it to be small relative to a wide range. Such candles are extremely common around news and at the start of consolidations. Definitional only; no forecast is implied.
Worked example
Open ₹500, high ₹518, low ₹484, close ₹497. The body is ₹3 against a ₹34 range, under 9%, with wicks of ₹18 above and ₹16 below — a wide session that resolved nothing.
