Conservative Force
A force for which total work done in moving an object between two points is independent of the path taken.
Governing formula
∮ F · dr = 0, F = -∇ PE
SI unit
N
In depth
Work done by conservative forces around any closed loop is zero. Mechanical energy is conserved when only conservative forces act.
Examples in the real world
Gravity, electrostatic forces, and spring elastic forces.
