T-grain Emulsion
An emulsion using flat, tabular silver crystals that present a larger surface area to light for a given volume.

Tabular crystals catch more light without being physically bulkier, which breaks the traditional trade between speed and grain. The result is film that is both fast and fine-grained, though the flat crystals are more sensitive to development variations and respond differently to some traditional developers.
Examples in practice
A tabular-grain 400-speed film shows grain closer to a conventional 125-speed emulsion at the same enlargement.
