Lighting & Flash

Snoot

A tube fitted to a light to restrict its beam to a narrow circle.

Measured in degrees (beam angle)

In depth

A snoot does not soften or change the character of light — it only limits where the light goes. That makes it the tool for adding a small pool on a background, a hair light on one part of the head, or a shaft of light across a product. The longer and narrower the tube, the tighter and more sharply edged the circle.

Examples in practice

A snooted head behind the subject drops a small bright pool on the backdrop just above their shoulder.
