A mode that moves the sensor by precise sub-pixel amounts between exposures and combines the frames into one higher-quality image.

Shifting by exactly one photosite lets every location record all three colours directly, eliminating demosaicing and its artefacts. Shifting by half a photosite additionally increases true resolution. It requires a tripod and a static subject, since any movement between frames produces severe artefacts, though some implementations now mask moving areas.
Examples in practice
A 16-frame pixel shift of a museum artefact yields a 200-megapixel file with no demosaicing artefacts at all.
