Height determines where the horizon falls, how much ground is visible, and the psychological relationship with the subject. Most photographs are taken from standing eye level simply because that is where the photographer's head is, which makes any other height immediately distinctive — and lowering the camera is usually the fastest improvement available.

Photographing a child from their own eye level rather than from adult height changes the picture from observation to participation.
